The second chapter of Matthew’s gospel describes the visit of the Magi, who came to Jerusalem describing a “Star in the East” they had seen, which they interpreted to mean that a king had been born in Judea. They came to Jerusalem seeking to worship and serve this king.

Upon hearing of this message, Herod was concerned and summoned these Magi to him, seeking precise information about this star from the Magi. After receiving further information from King Herod that the messiah was prophesied to be born in Bethlehem, they departed from Herod to find the child. Then, the scriptures describe that the “Star in the East” that they had seen appeared again, and after appearing, the star stood over the place where the child was in Bethlehem.
